Small Cars at Auto Expo

At Auto expo 2010, small cars will create the maximum buzz. Small cars from global carmakers and a lineup of electric and hybrid vehicles are expected to be showcased in Auto expo this year.

Global carmakers are looking to enter India, the largest market for small cars in the world, in a big way as their traditional markets in the developed world are yet to recover fully from the impact of the economic slow down.
The expo will experience a number of small car launches — concepts from Honda, Toyota and Suzuki, Polo from Volkswagen, Micra from Nissan and Figo from Ford. Green vehicles will join the roster with every participating company from Toyota to Honda and Hyundai to Suzuki looking to display their wares, either existing hybrids and electric models or new concepts.
About 1.6 million small cars were sold in 2009 with the segment accounting for almost 75% of all cars sold in the country.

Green Cars:

Although it's not scheduled for India debut yet, GM is keen to showcase its high-profile green concept. GM's partnership with Reva is likely to be extended to other models as well.

A recent study showed that nearly a third of Indians surveyed could go in for environment-friendly cars, even though that meant higher prices. With the growing concern over global warming, top carmakers in the world are investing heavily in green technologies. While a bulk of the expensive 'green cars' will be sold in developed markets, carmakers are looking at India and China. GM's pavilion will have two sections dedicated to the two parallel themes of the show — mini cars and green cars.
