History of Jeeps

Invention of jeeps takes back to the time of world war-I when US army looked for light weighted, all dominion and swift utility vehicle. Then, the automobiles manufactures processed a thought of such vehicle and prepared a Jeep within 49days of call.
These manufacturers were The Bantom Car Company and Willys Overland. The Bantom Car Company was able to finish the assignment and when the car was tested, it sustained the requirement. After the submission of the model by Bantom, both Willys and Ford submitted their paradigm based on the ideas of Bantom. Due to Willys Quad was more authoritarian and Bantom was not financially strong. So, Willys Overhead authorized a non-exclusive license to allow other manufacturers with some specifications. There are different stories for coining of term Jeep.
But, the most popular story is US designated term G.P. (General Purpose vehicle) was converted to Jeep. Jeep was not only an army potential vehicle but it soon became a civilian potential vehicle too. In 1945, Willys introduced its first civilian jeep for construction workers and farmers. It was further used for makeshift ambulance, conveyances for Prime Ministers, Army Generals, lying of telephone wires etc.



Jeep trademark was later obtained by Willys from United States Trademark Registration. Bu this trademark changes from time to time like Willys to Kaiser to American Motors Corporation to Chrysler Corporation (recent owner of the trademark). Among all the models, Jeep Wagoneer was an early SUV making advancements throughout 1963 to 1991. an overhead cam engine, supplemented with power steering, automatic transmission, boxy and strong shape, solid front axle, independent front suspension. As comparing the vehicles introduced by the International Harvester and Land Rover, it was 4x4 luxurious SUV and has a truck like look. It is still used as carburetor in US. With its base as Jeep SJ, it has done its job for 24years. All other vehicles switched to fuel injection. Isuzu made its last carbureted vehicle in 1993.



Jeep Wrangler was a compact four wheel drive SUV which was manufactured by Chrysler. The predecessor of World War II Jeep by Willys, American Motors and Kaiser is Wrangler. It made its remark in 1997 and is still famous in 2007. This SUV used live axles in front and rear. This was started building in Brampton, Ontario, Canada but shifted to Toledo South Assembly in 2006.
